Much of the lyrical messages in music, one could say, follow a first person narrative, or a plurality of that form, while some falls into a structure more akin to the third person. In rare examples (Like, say, some of John Darnielle's work) it may overtly exhibit one or the other, but in its tone, and an underlying and often only hinted at narrative related to the present events of the character in the piece, one can feel the truth of the situation, the serenity at times, and the stress and bile at others, but in an indirect way, instead of being beaten over the head with the who/what/where/why/when as is typical, which shows a higher genius beneath the piece. This album is none of the above.
Eldrig is in no way a political project. The concepts inherit within Eldrig are instead reflective of the mystery, not the belief. Much of what makes up our existence is based on that which is hidden, after all. Some try to compartmentalize these ideas, and file them away, while others search for absolute truths. A few see the search and exploration of fantastical ideas as part of a journey, with the journey being paramount. While "Everlasting War Divinity" is based on the writings of individuals who saw and where proponents of their own truths, the message is more of a feeling of how these aspects of the nature of the universe reverberate up to the cosmos, and down to the mammal. Buried beneath the texts of Everlasting War Divinity are key concepts of Nietzsche and Ragnar Redbeard (Who some believe was actually Jack London), but somehow as seen through the eyes of warring tribes. These ideas of Will to Power and Might is Right respectively have commingled into an epic tale of battle, and its preparation, participation, and perpetuation, in a style of prose almost belonging to that of the ancients.
This is, however, not War Metal, but musically another beast all its own. Equally reflective of the best of Drudkh and Kroda as that of say Boyd Rice and Der Blutharsch, while once again, only in feeling, as musically it still stands to one side of all that, in a parallel universe where some sort of Symphonic-Pagan-War-Metal exists. While filled with frenetic layers of drums, one at mid pace, another doubled up, punctuated by cataclysmic, air evacuating bass surges, and fantastical electronic melodies swirling throughout, these elements are mere chaos around the primary driving element, which just happens to be highly inventive, constantly evolving guitar work, which in its own way manages to be a high water mark in what very well may be seen as future prog as well one day.
"Everlasting War Divinity" is available as a one time pressing, limited to 500 pieces, and contained in hand screened jackets, with a three fold, 36/12" insert, detailing an epic battle scene on one side, along with the writings contained in the lyrics on the other. Compact disc version originally released by Eastside Records, Poland, which is where the reference art was pulled from, but is greatly expanded upon with this limited LP version.
