DJ Bone "The Red Zone" Subject Detroit SUBJ031 12"

Even though danger is ever-present in many of our daily lives, most have the luxury to live a sheltered life protecting them from day to day harm. "The Red Zone" is a term usually used to describe a very dangerous if not lethal area in which one must tread and DJ Bone takes you there with this EP.

A1: War
The very bluntly titled "War" is the first track on the A-side, and it brings with it a fury of raw drums and sounds that could very possibly take you to the "Red Zone" if you close your eyes.

A2: Fight
Track 2 on side A is "Fight," an aggressive dance floor attacker with a somewhat haunting/eerie vibe that runs through most of the song. Imagine being chased by dark rhythms in the sweltering desert, no escape and on mercy.

A3: Wardance
"Wardance" is the third song on side A. It captures the celebration of surviving the "Red Zone" for another day but it also expresses the dismay of knowing you must face it all again tomorrow. Heartfelt African chants and rhythms overflow out of the speakers when this song is played. The drums and music in "Wardance" are powerful but the human noises are what will make you FEEL this song!

B1: Stomp
Side B of "The Red Zone EP" gets things bumpin’ with "Stomp," an anxious melody consistently interrupted by funk hits. It’s like a hi-tech soul ambush!

B2: That Tree
Next up is "That Tree," which contains a controversial vocal encouraging certain people to “come out from behind that tree” a message to stop hiding and take responsibility for their actions. There are elements of almost angelic sounds surrounded by an altered backwards bassline and backwards snares. If you listen closely, the backwards tones sound as if they are trying to hide.

B3: Doubt
To round out this EP, "Doubt" fires off with a militaristic, marching rhythm taking you full steam ahead into the unknown, stalking various sounds, ethereal didgeridoos, spacey bass noises and voices.
